About Ball Racing
Ball Racing puts you at the back of a four-lane circuit suspended in a starlit sky, with the field rolling ahead of you. There is no throttle to manage. What there is, instead, is momentum โ and a great deal of it.
A lane change takes 330 milliseconds, three times a car's, and cannot be cancelled once it is rolling. Braking sheds barely half of what a car's brakes would. Together those two facts change the game completely: you are not reacting to the obstacle in front of you, you are committing to a line several seconds before you need it, and living with the consequences.
In exchange the ball is the toughest body in the category. Contact leaves you with sixty per cent of your speed where a car keeps forty-five and a bike thirty, and the stagger is shorter. Being knocked about is survivable; being in the wrong lane is not. Play free in your browser across eight levels, from 1,170 to 2,970 metres.
Controls
The ball is always rolling and always gaining speed. Fuel and nitro are collected by rolling over them, so there are no item buttons.
Both inputs work on touch and on a keyboard:
- Changing lane drag across the track, or tap its left or right half. On a keyboard, โ โ or A D. The roll takes about a third of a second and cannot be cancelled โ this is the slowest steering in the category by a wide margin.
- Brake hold the Brake button, or โ / S. It works, but weakly: a ball this heavy slows rather than stops.
- Red fuel can roll over it to refuel. The gauge is top-left and warns you in amber and red.
- Green nitro bottle roll over it for an instant burst past your top speed, at more than double the fuel burn.
- Pause the Pause button, or Esc / P. The race also pauses if you switch tabs.
Contact never ends the race, and it hurts less here than anywhere else in the category โ you keep about sixty per cent of your speed.
An empty tank caps you at just over a third of top speed rather than stopping you. Once per race you can watch a short ad for a full tank.
Finish 1st to move up. Rivals climb from 74% to 97% of your top speed across the eight levels.
Tips
- Choose the lane two obstacles early By the time a hazard is close enough to react to, your lane change won't finish before you reach it. Read the track well ahead and move for the gap after next, not the one in front.
- Don't rely on the brakes They shed far less speed than a car's. If your plan involves stopping in time, it isn't a plan โ the answer is almost always the other lane, taken earlier.
- Take the hit when the lane is wrong You keep sixty per cent of your speed through contact, and a panicked half-committed lane change can cost you more than the knock would. Sometimes the fastest line is straight through.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it feel so slow to steer?
That's the point of this one. A lane change takes 330ms against a car's 180ms and can't be cancelled midway, so Ball Racing is about committing early rather than reacting late.
Is the ball slower than the car?
Its top speed is lower, yes โ but it also survives contact far better, keeping about 60% of its speed against a car's 45% and a bike's 30%.
How do I get nitro?
You roll over it. Green bottles lie on the track and fire on contact, and red cans refuel the same way. There are no item buttons.
What happens if I run out of fuel?
You keep rolling at about a third of your top speed until the next can. The race still finishes. Once per race you can watch a short ad for a full tank.
Can I play Ball Racing on my phone?
Yes. Drag or tap either half of the track, with on-screen Brake and Pause buttons, in any modern mobile browser.
