About Space Racing
Space Racing runs through a five-lane corridor rather than a four-lane road, which sounds like more room and mostly means more to read. You start at the back of the field with the pack strung out ahead against a starfield, and the corridor is lit by its own rails because there is nothing out here to light it.
Your ship is the quickest body in the category by some distance, and it has almost no brakes — retros shed barely a third of what a car's discs would. The combination is deliberate: at this speed, with this little stopping power, the corridor has to be read a long way ahead. Planning is the only control you really have.
Fuel is the enemy out here. The tank burns faster than in any other racing game in the category, so the cans drifting in the corridor are a lifeline rather than a top-up, and they are seeded more thickly to match. Nitro burns fuel at more than double the rate again. Play free in your browser across eight levels, from 1,625 to 4,125 metres.
Controls
The ship is always accelerating, and fuel and nitro are collected by flying through them, so there are no item buttons.
Both inputs work on touch and on a keyboard:
- Changing lane drag across the corridor, or tap its left or right half. On a keyboard, ← → or A D. There are five lanes here, not four.
- Brake hold the Brake button, or ↓ / S. Retros are weak by design — roughly a third of a car's braking. Treat them as a nudge, not a stop.
- Red fuel can fly through it to refuel. Watch the gauge closely; it burns fastest in this game.
- Green nitro bottle fly through it for a burst past an already high top speed, at more than double the fuel burn.
- Pause the Pause button, or Esc / P. The race also pauses if you switch tabs.
Contact never ends the race — you keep about forty per cent of your speed and carry on.
An empty tank caps you at under thirty per cent of top speed, the harshest limp in the category. Once per race you can watch a short ad for a full tank.
Finish 1st to move up. Rivals climb from 74% to 97% of your top speed across the eight levels.
Tips
- Fuel first, position second This is the thirstiest game in the category. A can two lanes over is almost always worth more than the place you'd gain by ignoring it, because running dry costs you far more than one position.
- The fifth lane is an escape route Four-lane games force you into a binary. Here there is usually an outside lane nobody is using — get into the habit of checking it before you commit to threading the middle.
- Boost on the clear stretches only Nitro on top of an already high top speed with almost no brakes is how you arrive at a blocked lane with no options. Spend it where you can see all the way to the next gap.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the brakes so weak?
Deliberately — there's nothing to brake against in vacuum. The retros shed roughly a third of what a car's brakes would, which is why this game is about reading the corridor early.
How many lanes are there?
Five, against four in the other rival racers. It's the widest track in the category, and with the highest speeds you'll use all of it.
Why do I keep running out of fuel?
Space burns fuel faster than any other racing game here. Cans are seeded more thickly to compensate, but you have to actively steer for them rather than take the ones that happen to be in your lane.
How do I get nitro?
You fly through it. Green bottles drift in the corridor and fire on contact; red cans refuel the same way. There are no item buttons.
Can I play Space Racing on my phone?
Yes. Drag or tap either half of the corridor, with on-screen Brake and Pause buttons, in any modern mobile browser.
